The fee reduction is granted upon application, starting on the first day of the month following receipt of the order.
If both conditions (reduction for small children and care dependency of a household member) are met, the fee reduction can also be granted at the same time. In this case, the fee is reduced by €9.00 per month.
The application cannot be processed if incomplete information or proof is missing. The fee reduction can only be granted if the minimum volume of the residual waste garbage can of 20 liters per household member is adhered to.
The information in the application is checked against the residents’ register or the registration data of the relevant residents’ registration office.
The updated waste fee notice will be sent to the property owner or authorized representative.

Use the organic waste garbage can for organic waste to dispose of as little as possible in the residual waste garbage can. You may be able to reduce the size of your bin by taking the minimum bin volume into account. Incidentally, you are free to choose the size of your organic waste garbage can.
Do you have children under the age of 3 in your family? If so, you can apply for a fee reduction. After all, you will then save €36.00 per child per year on the residual waste fee!

If a member of the household is in need of care, a reduction of EUR 6.00 per month (EUR 72.00 per year) can be granted. If the fee reduction is applied for due to the need for care, the application must be accompanied by a certificate from the family doctor stating that increased waste is produced in the household due to an illness or need for care.

Is it possible for you to share a residual waste garbage can with your immediate neighbor (the properties must be directly adjacent)? As long as you comply with the minimum volume, sharing a residual waste bin can save you a lot of money over the year.
In principle, the use of an organic waste garbage can is mandatory in the district of Emsland. The obligation to connect and use the organic waste garbage can applies. You can be exempted from this obligation on condition that you compost all organic waste – including food waste – completely on the property in question and recycle the resulting compost there.
According to a recommendation by the Federal Environment Agency, this requires an unsealed garden area (e.g. beds and garden areas) of at least 50 square meters per resident. Please bear in mind that home composting quickly reaches its limits with many types of waste from the kitchen (e.g. cooked food scraps, bones, nutshells, citrus fruit peel). As this waste must not be disposed of in the residual waste garbage can, it often makes sense to use an organic waste garbage can in addition to home composting.
Reduction of the minimum volume is possible on request!
1-person households:
Minimum volume 20 liters, fee reduction possible via application form (www.awb-emsland.de; forms)
5-person households:
Minimum volume 100 liters, reduction to 80-liter garbage can possible on request (informal). Number of minimum empties increases to 16.
7-person households:
Minimum volume 140 liters, reduction to 120-liter garbage can possible on request (informal). Number of minimum empties increases to 15
