The introduction of the “dual system” and the yellow bag for separating and recycling packaging waste was a big step in terms of recycling. But we are going even further: since 2022, the district of Emsland has had a free yellow recycling garbage can! “Non-packaging of the same material” can then also be disposed of here. In concrete terms, this means that you can and should also put metal or plastic waste that is not packaging, such as a broken plastic bowl or a disused frying pan.

Only put empty packaging and other “non-packaging of the same material”, i.e. metal or plastic waste that is not packaging, loose in the recycling garbage can.
Only correctly filled recycling garbage cans will be emptied! If your recycling garbage can is not emptied and has a red sticker on it, it contains foreign materials that do not belong in it – glass, paper, construction waste, etc. In this case, you unfortunately have no choice but to re-sort and dispose of this waste with the residual waste.
Adjustments to the collection calendar may result in changes to collection days and postponements of the usual emptying times. We therefore recommend that you put all waste containers out on the evening before the collection date.

It is not the Emsland district waste management company (AWB) but the privately organized company PreZero Dual GmbH that has commissioned the disposal company Remondis to collect the recycling garbage can in the Emsland district.
The standard bin has a capacity of 240 liters. You can also share a garbage can with your neighbors or, depending on the number of household members, order additional recycling garbage cans. Recycling containers (1.1 cbm) are available for residential complexes.
Please check your neighborhood first to see if the garbage can has been taken back by someone else by mistake. If this is not the case, please contact:

Yes, it is possible to form disposal communities.
The waste disposal company has then determined that the recycling garbage can contains waste that may not be disposed of in the recycling garbage can. Please remove this waste and put the recycling garbage can out on the next collection date. Your garbage can will then be emptied again.
You can also hand in your recyclables and packaging at the recycling centers and central landfill sites.
At the recycling centers, 1-2 transparent bags/yellow bags, if still available, are accepted per delivery.

There is no obligation to use the recycling garbage can. However, you are obliged to collect and dispose of waste separately according to the statutes. You can dispose of the collected recyclables and packaging at any recycling center or at a central landfill site.
The garbage can is free of charge for you. As before, the disposal of packaging is financed by the dual systems, which organize the take-back and recycling of this waste for retailers. Remondis’ client, PreZero Dual GmbH, is also one of them. Ultimately, the consumer pays for the disposal costs of the packaging when purchasing each packaged product. The recycling garbage can remains the property of Remondis Niedersachsen GmbH.
Only the property owner should make inventory changes.

The recycling garbage can is emptied every 4 weeks.
The non-emptying must be reported to Remondis Niedersachsen GmbH. The further procedure will then be agreed directly with the customer on a case-by-case basis (subsequent emptying, provision at the next collection).

Please only dispose of empty packaging in the collection. Rinsing is not necessary. If products are covered, please put the contents in the residual or organic waste and put the empty packaging in the designated collection systems (recycling garbage can, paper collection, glass collection). Packaging is too valuable for the recycling cycle to be disposed of in residual waste. Heavily soiled packaging or packaging that has not been emptied of its residues can severely disrupt the sorting process and make recycling impossible.
